Designer soapstone hand carved in Kisii, Kenya for Namaste on a fair trade basis. Many of the people in the Kisii area are very poor and live off subsistence agriculture so soapstone production is a much needed supplementary income. Soapstone is a naturally occurring stone which is hand carved and then sanded in water to produce a wonderfully smooth finish. The stone is then painted before the final design is hand etched.
